In 1956 O. T. (Oscar) Fulghum, Sr. and his two sons, O.T. (Tommy) and Heyward, incorporate Fulghum Industries in Wadley, GA. The vision of Fulghum Industries was to meet the demands of the forest products industry by providing low cost high quality equipment along with excellent service. This vision led to the development of the Rosserhead debarker. The Rosserhead was one of the first low cost high efficiency debarkers available on the market.
After the success of the debarker Fulghum began to manufacture chippers, specifically designed for the sawmill industry. The chippers became the cornerstone of Fulghum Industries, and are known world wide as being the best on the market.
Fulghum Industries, with the continued popularity of the Rosserhead debarker and chippers, ventured in to developing complete wood chipping systems. These systems gained much acclaim over the years and are evidenced in the more than 100 complete systems Fulghum Industries has manufactured and installed.
Tommy Fulghum, with his ever entrepreneurial vision, started Fulghum Fibres in 1989, as an off-shoot from Fulghum Industries. His vision for Fulghum Fibres was to provide a contract chipping service to the pulp and paper industries while providing the highest quality chip at a competitive cost.
Fulghum Fibres grew from only a handful of contract chipping operations to more than 32 facilities in 2009. The facilities range in size from 200,000 tons per year of chip to more than 1.8 million. With new ventures in South America, Fulghum Fibres now handles the procurement and export of approximately 2.5 million tons of chips per year. With Fulghum Fibres’ Coronel, Chile facility being the flag ship mill for South America the operations have expanded to a total of 7 facilities in Chile and one located in Uruguay.
