Fulghum Fibres aids in fulfilling customer's need for chips with vessel shipment
The recent rainy winter, has forced many southeastern US pulp and paper companies to search for alternative sources for wood chips, as local fiber supply dwindled. For Georgia Pacific this included searching overseas, and tapping in to Fulghum Fibres' extensive fiber network. With Fulghum Fibres, Georgia Pacific was able to satisfy this need by importing chips from Amcel's Macapa chip mill in Brazil.
The first vessel began loading on February 25, 2010 and set sail for Reserve, Louisiana arriving on March 13, 2010 (10-day vessel voyage).

Pictured above is the vessel Crimson Neptune at the port in Macapa, Brazil, being readied for loading.
The Neptune can hold approximately 40,000 tons of chips in (6) holds aligned on the ship. The loading of the vessel takes place 24 hours per day until fully loaded.

The Neptune arrived at the Reserve, LA port on March 13 and began unloading later that evening. The chips were sent to Georgia Pacific's Port Hudson paper mill

Fulghum Fibres continues to support our pulp and paper customers in finding fiber sources.
